Charity Stories 2017

Charity Stories 2017

Following the success of last years’ Charity Choice, Flying Start once again allocated £200 000 raised by colleagues to be shared amongst charities of your choosing. This year colleagues had the chance to choose between four themes, in-line with the Comic Relief grant strategy. For each of the four themes, a UK and international based charity were chosen.

Women and Girls – Domestic and gender-based violence

Communities – Homelessness and street children

Sport for Change – Employability and education using sport

Health and Wellbeing – HIV and AIDS

Over 4000 colleagues voted in this years’ initiative, in which each of the 8 projects received between £10 000 and £40 000 to help improve the lives of the children they support. Colleagues voted online on our designated website, as well as at roadshows we held across the business, from Waterside and Gatwick in London, to the call centres in Newcastle and engineering in Glasgow.

You chose to allocate the bursaries as below:

  • Communities – £40 000 per charity
  • Women and Girls – £30 000 per charity
  • Health and Wellbeing – £20 000 per charity
  • Sport for Change  – £10 000 per charity

Thank you all for taking part and taking the time to find out more about these projects, supported by Flying Start and Comic Relief. Each of the charities does amazing work in their area, and you can find out more about them by clicking on the links above.
